BASIC INTRODUCTION TO SAILING CLASS or our ASA 101 Basic Keelboat and ASA 103 Basic Coastal Cruising classes and become credentialed to charter.
BASIC INTRODUCTION TO SAILING CLASS:
A 2.5 hour (semi-private) lesson where each student will get a "feel" for sailing. Literally! Our Jeanneau 379 has two wheels; one for the experienced (45 years) US Coast Guard licensed Captain, and one for the student.
A unique "hands-on" experience your first time on the water. Classes are held on Tuesday nights from 6:30pm-9:00pm, Thursday mornings from 10:00am-12:30pm, and Monday afternoons from 2:00pm-4:30pm. We have a limited number of Friday and Saturday night classes from 6:00pm-8:30pm at $50 additional per person. All classes are subject to availability.
ASA 101 BASIC KEELBOAT:
Perfect introductory course to help you learn about sailing.
Format: Taught in 4 three hour classes or 3 four hour classes (12 hours total).
Cost: $445 includes books and course materials and 1 year ASA membership
Receive a $25 discount when two people book as a couple or when two friends take the class together. For private Instruction, add an additional $100 to the fee.
ASA 103 BASIC COASTAL CRUISING:
Prerequisites: ASA 101 Basic Keelboat Sailing Certificate
Provides necessary knowledge to safely cruise in local and regional waters as both skipper and crew in moderate winds and sea conditions.
Format: Taught in 4 four hour classes (16 hours total).
Cost: $555 includes books, course materials and ASA 101 and ASA 103 certifications
Receive a $35 returning student discount if you've had classes with us in the past.
For private Instruction, add an additional $125 to the fee.
PRACTICE PACKAGE (SEMI-PRIVATE):
Personalized training is available for seasoned sailors that want more practice or new sailors that want to hone their skills. This is excellent for those sailors that wish to "challenge" ASA certifications. Private also available based on your sailing history and/or requirements. Typically this is an 8 hour program divided into four - 2 hour sessions; check out practice, orientation sail, crew clinic, and docking clinic. The fee includes a life-time/one time membership in Chicago Yacht Share.
THOSE WISHING TO CHARTER WITH CHICAGO YACHT SHARE:
In order to skipper our Jeanneau 379, and for your safety, and the safety of your guests, you will need to complete the following to the satisfaction of our US Coast Guard Licensed Captain:
* Licensed US Coast Guard Captains with Sailing Endorsement and/or experienced sailors that attest in writing to extensive experience on sailboats of a similar size, are excluded from ASA 101 and ASA 103 requirements. Successful completion of the check out sail, crew clinic, orientation sail and docking clinic are required.
